Luxury Lightweight Stone Islands

AluStone™ kitchen island — Brazilian quartzite (Taj Mahal).

The BELGRΛVIΛ - Alustone Studio’s signature luxury stone island, designed as a statement of modern kitchen architecture. All visible surfaces—including the worktop and the full suite of drawer fronts—are crafted in natural stone. This model is shown in Brazilian Quartzite Taj Mahal, though the system is engineered to accommodate any natural stone where feasible.

Internal Structure

A compressed American laminate carcass provides exceptional stability and moisture resistance, forming a rigid, long‑lasting foundation for the stone surfaces.

Drawer Engineering

The island includes 16 precision drawers with:

Blum® hardware for smooth, reliable motion

In‑house bevelled handles

5 mm stone on 15 mm aluminium honeycomb for lightweight rigidity

Engineered Luxury

The BELGRΛVIΛ shows how lightweight stone technology enables larger forms, cleaner geometry, and precision impossible with traditional slab stone—a statement of Alustone Studio’s innovation and craftsmanship.

The BELGRΛVIΛ - MATERIAL COMPOSITION

Exploded view of a kitchen island showing Brazilian quartzite panels and aluminum honeycomb core.

The visible surfaces of our Quartzite kitchen island including worktops, drawer fronts, and doors — are crafted from Brazilian quartzite in Taj Mahal stone, showcasing innovative kitchen architecture. Instead of utilizing solid stone, this system features a 5 mm natural stone layer bonded to a 15 mm aluminium honeycomb structural core, achieving a total thickness of 20 mm. This composite construction, a prime example of natural stone re-engineering, enhances structural performance while significantly reducing weight compared to solid stone alternatives, enabling larger surfaces to remain stable, precise, and manageable. Internal carcasses are built from compressed American laminate, ensuring dimensional stability and a robust internal framework behind the stone surfaces. Drawer systems are equipped with Blum® hardware, chosen for its long-term reliability and smooth movement.

DESIGNED FOR ARCHITECTURE

Traditional stone kitchen islands, often seen in kitchen architecture, rely on mass for strength. As surfaces grow larger, weight, handling limits, and structural demands quickly define what becomes possible. This often leads to compromises in proportion, detailing, or layout — not because of design intent, but because of material constraints.

AluStone™ exists to remove these constraints, allowing for the creation of an AluStone kitchen where stone is used as a continuous architectural surface rather than a series of heavy components.

The goal is not to replace the artistry of stone craftsmanship but to enable natural stone re-engineering, extending what stone can realistically achieve.

Engineered Weight Reduction

The prototype AluStone kitchen island shown measures 2800 × 1270 × 910 mm and weighs approximately 600 kg. In contrast, a comparable island made from solid quartzite would weigh around 1,000–1,100 kg due to the mass of full-thickness stone construction.

The maximum size we can deliver in one piece is width 1500 mm and length 3000 mm.

By utilizing natural stone re-engineering, the AluStone™ system effectively separates surface and structure, achieving a significant reduction in weight while ensuring structural stability at an architectural scale. This innovative approach allows for up to ~40% weight reduction compared to full-thickness stone constructions of similar dimensions, enhancing kitchen architecture without compromising quality.
